To most people, it isn't the browser that matters. It's only a tool to run the important stuff -- the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. This is what Sundar pichai, VP product Management, and Linus Upson, Engineering Director at GOOGLE has got to say about the thinking of most of the users And this is exactly what Google chrome is promising.
With the brand name Google attached to it, and admitting that we cann't help out if the first kind of people are coorect we leave them to think whatever they want,we shall discuss the third possibility in some forthcoming blog and as of now lets see The google chrome for the middle stream of users like me. The big question arising in this situation is when there are a lot other browsers already in the market why this one, more-ever with the fast, efficient and sleekish firefox in the market most of the guys are already happy, So what is so special about google chrome that will attract over 125 million users of firefox and many more of IE,Safari,Opera and the likes.
Without getting into much of the technical details (if you really want to get a look at the technicla aspect of Google Chrome please visit the links provided below) We shall see this "SPECIAL" and "NOT so SPECIAL" thing about Google Chrome.
Special Things :
Chrome features a process management utility called the Task Manager which allows the user to "see what sites are using the mostmemory, downloading the most bytes and abusing [their] CPU" (as well as the plugins which run in separate processes) and terminate them."
By using a new concept termed as "sandbox", chrome prevents one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. A similar kind of methodology is used in creating Chrome as a multithreaded web-browser making it more secure and less hostile to attack.
Fast, and elegant . Simplicity and Speed is something which has became a synonym of google
and Google chrome takes to a step ahead, it is extra-ordinarrily elegant and light-weighted.
The Not SO Special Things :
Chrome uses a WebKit originally developed for Safari of Apple. But then as Discussed at Black Hat conference 2008, there are some flaws in it which could easily be used to trick users into launching executables direct from the browser. Safari uses a version of WebKit that has a patch to rectify it but at present Chrome uses the older version and hence is an easy victim for this flaw.
No suuport of RSS feeds : Now this is really surprising, you never expect such a thing from a company like Google.
Overall Review :
Chrome is indeed a fast, elegant and impressive browser but it still needs the "OOMPH factor" if it really wants to capture the browser market, a lot of things remain to be done including the above mentioned short-comings. I would give it 72/100 one the scale where IE gets- 60/100, Opera 65/100,Safari 73/100 and firefox 78/100.
